Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati
The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati have invited women and men to
share in their mission and spirit through their Associate program
since 1973 — one of the longest-running Associate programs in the
United States. Today more than 200 Associates reside throughout
the country, living the motto of their founder Elizabeth Ann Seton:
“The Charity of Christ Urges Us.”
ABOUT THEIR ASSOCIATE PROGRAM
Associates in Mission are women and men, young and old, married,
single, widowed, divorced, and ordained, who share in the mission
and spirit of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. Associates seek
to express a spirituality of attending to God in prayer, in each
other, and wherever God’s love is made visible. They commit to
living the virtues of humility, simplicity, and charity that form
the foundation of the community’s spirituality.
Associates commit to a relationship centered upon living and
spreading the Gospel message, serving the spiritual and corporal
needs of God’s people, and sharing friendship, faith, and action
with the community. Associates and Sisters offer one another
mutually enriching relationships with the opportunity to share
faith and the awareness of how the Gospel impacts their lives
and their world.
HOW TO BECOME AN ASSOCIATE
Those interested in becoming an Associate in Mission begin a period
of discernment and formation. The Sisters of Charity also offer an
Associates in Volunteer Ministry program for those called to serve
directly alongside Sisters and Associates in ministry placements.
